Questions worth asking any agent
Including Frank. A good agent will welcome these; an agent who deflects them is telling you something.
- How are you paid on this, and does it differ between the products you are showing me?
- Which numbers in this illustration are guaranteed, and which are projections?
- What happens if my circumstances change and I need this money back?
- What is the argument against this product for someone in my situation?
- Who do I call in five years when I have a question and you have retired?
Independent resources: the California Department of Insurance (insurance.ca.gov, 1-800-927-4357) publishes consumer guides and can verify any agent's license. Using them is a reasonable thing to do before making a decision, and no honest agent will discourage it.
